The San Jose State Spartans and the Fresno State Bulldogs meet in Mountain West conference college basketball action from Save Mart Center on Friday night.
The San Jose State Spartans will look to build on their 2nd win of the season after an 80-64 win over subdivision Benedictine last time out. Jalen Dalcourt leads the Spartans in scoring with 20.5 PPG in his pair of games this season while Richard Washington is 2nd in scoring with 20.3 PPG and 5.3 RPG to represent the two double-digit scorers for San Jose State coming into Friday’s game against Fresno State. Ralph Agee has 9.4 PPG and Omari Moore has 8.4 PPG with 5.8 RPG and a team-high 2.9 APG this season. As a team, San Jose State is averaging 69.1 PPG on 36.5% shooting from the field, 30.3% from 3-point range and 66.5% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 87.4 PPG on 44.5% shooting from the field and 31% from 3-point range this season.
The Fresno State Bulldogs will look to build on their 81-61 win over Wyoming last time out to improve to 3-3 on the year. Orlando Robinson leads the Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding, averaging a double-double per game with 18.5 PPG and 10.7 RPG while Deon Stroud is 2nd in scoring with 12.5 PPG and Isaiah Hill is 3rd in scoring and tops in assists with 11 PPG and 3 APG this season. Christian Gray has 6.8 PPG with 5.3 RPG as well for the Bulldogs this season. As a team, Fresno State is averaging 72 PPG on 45.6% shooting from the field, 27.6% from 3-point range and 63% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 67.8 PPG on 39.6% shooting from the field and 35.2% from 3-point range this season.
San Jose State is 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games overall and 16-34-1 ATS in their last 51 road games while the over is 35-17-2 in their last 54 games following a win. Fresno State is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 home games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall while the over is 10-4 in their last 14 games against a team with a losing record. The favorite is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and the home team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams as well.
I get why the points are tempting with San Jose State as the Bulldogs leave a lot of points at the free throw line and outside the arc, but the Spartans have been blown out left and right this season and while the Spartans got an impressive cover and near upset win over Boise State, I think it was a flash in the pan as Fresno State’s offense woke up against Wyoming. I just don’t trust San Jose State to string together back-to-back solid games against decent competition, so I’ll lean towards laying the points with Fresno State here.
