The Florida Atlantic Owls and the Old Dominion Monarchs meet Friday in college basketball action from Ted Constant Convocation Center.
Florida Atlantic enters this one at 5-4 so far. The Owls are 1-2 in their last three games, falling to Stetson and James Madison in that time. As for Old Dominion, they’re 5-3 this year. The Monarchs are coming off a five-point win over FIU. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Florida Atlantic came out of the gate this year with consecutive losses, but then won their next four outings versus Mobile, Florida National, North Florida and Florida Memorial. Since then it’s been a loss to Stetson, a win over Florida College and a 79-70 loss to James Madison.
In the loss to the Dukes on Tuesday, FAU’s top scorer was Jailyn Ingram with 20 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Kenan Blackshear added 14 points with three rebounds and one assist, and Michael Forrest posted 10 points with one rebound in 20 minutes on the floor.
Over on the Old Dominion side, they started out the year at 2-2 with wins over Norfolk State and William & Mary alongside losses to Maryland and VCU. After beating Northeastern and VA Wesleyan, the Monarchs fell to FIU before getting a 71-66 win in the Saturday rematch.
In the win over the Panthers, Old Dominion’s Malik Curry managed 27 points with two rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes. The only other Monarchs player in double-figures there was Anthony Oliver with 14 points and four rebounds in 36 minutes on the court.
The Monarchs are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. Old Dominion is 1-5 ATS in their last six Friday games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine overall.
Meanwhile, the Owls are 1-4 ATS in their last five Friday games and 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall. FAU is 0-4 ATS in their last four road games and the under is 14-3 in their last 17 Friday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Old Dominion here. The Owls have notched some nice points totals lately, beating up on overmatched teams like Florida College and Florida Memorial. Otherwise, FAU was flat in their first couple of outings but competitive in good matchups. In any case, the Monarchs have been hit-and-miss when it comes to scoring, but I still like their offense better in this one. I think ODU can power out a cover.
