The Western Illinois Leathernecks and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits meet Friday in college basketball action from Frost Arena.
Western Illinois is sitting at 2-7 on the year. The Leathernecks are riding a three-game losing streak versus DePaul and North Dakota State. As for South Dakota State, they’re 6-3 this year. The Jackrabbits are coming off a 43-point win over Mount Marty on Monday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Western Illinois began the year with three straight losses to Iowa, Central Michigan and Miami-OH. The Leathernecks went 2-1 in their next three with wins over Mount St. Joseph and TN-Martin, but then dropped three more in a row versus DePaul and North Dakota State (twice).
In the Sunday loss 78-67 to the Bison, Western Illinois’ leading performer was Tamell Pearson with 17 points, five rebounds and one assist. Both Will Caries and Rod Johnson notched 14 points and five rebounds apiece, and Adam Anhold chipped in nine points.
Over on the South Dakota State side, they started off at 1-2 before ripping a four-game win streak over Iowa State, Bradley, North Dakota State and North Dakota. After a loss to South Dakota, the Jackrabbits bagged another win in their last game Monday versus Mount Marty.
In the win over the Lancers, South Dakota State’s Matt Dentlinger led the way on 21 points with eight boards and one assist. David Wingett and Luke Appel notched 16 points apiece, and Baylor Scheierman doubled up on 12 points, 14 rebounds and three assists.
The Jackrabbits are 24-9 ATS in their last 33 games overall and 37-17-1 ATS in their last 55 at home. SD State is 6-17 ATS in their last 23 Friday games and the over is 8-2 in their last 10 Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Leathernecks are 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 overall and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine after a straight-up loss. Western Illinois is 0-5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss and the over is 8-3 in their last 11 Friday games.
PICK: I’m sticking with South Dakota State here. Western Illinois has been pretty sketchy on offense over their last pair, notching a combined 117 points in that time. The Leathernecks have also been permissive on defense, giving up 78 or more in three of their last five. South Dakota State has hit 71 or more points in each of their last six games, and I like the Jackrabbits to keep that momentum going on a cover in this one.
