The Georgia State Panthers and the Troy Trojans meet in Sun Belt college basketball action from Trojan Arena on Friday night.
The Georgia State Panthers will look to add to their 7-2 mark after picking up a 70-62 road win over Coastal Carolina in their last matchup. Corey Allen leads the Panthers in scoring with 15.4 PPG, shooting 55.7% from the field and 54.2% from 3-point range with 4.4 RPG while Justin Robert is 2nd in scoring and tops in assists with 4.7 APG this season. Eliel Nsoseme is 3rd in scoring and the Panthers’ leading rebounder with 13.6 PPG and 10.6 RPG while Kane Williams is right behind with 13.3 PPG and 4.1 APG to cap off the scoring in double figures for Georgia State up to this point in the year. As a team, Georgia State is averaging 88.2 PPG, shooting 49% from the field, 37% from 3-point range and 61.9% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 74.1 PPG on 39.8% shooting from the field and 31.6% from the 3-point line this season.
The Troy Trojans will look to bounce back from a 90-59 loss to Appalachian State that dropped the Trojans to 6-5 on the year. Zay Williams leads the Trojans in scoring with 11 PPG while Nick Stampley is right behind with 10.9 PPG as the lone pair of double-digit scorers for Troy this season with Stampley and Williams sharing the team lead in rebounding with 7.5 RPG this year. Khalyl Waters and Kam Woods each have 9+ PPG this season for Troy while Duke Miles leads Troy with 2.1 APG on the year. As a team, Troy is averaging 61.5 PPG on 38.3% shooting from the field, 24.2% from 3-point range and 67.9% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.8 PPG on 42.6% shooting from the field and 34.9% from 3-point range this season.
Georgia State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games against a team with a winning home record while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 Friday games. Troy is 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 games overall and 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 home games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a loss. The home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams and the underdog is 12-5 ATS in the last 17 meetings between the two as well.
This feels like a ton of points to lay with a Georgia State team that’s gone 3-2 on the road and lost the first matchup against Coastal in their last back-to-back, but the issue with Troy is that the Trojans are one of the most offensively inconsistent teams you’ll find anywhere, and they were just shelled by an average App State team last time out. I think this is a case of just laying points with the much better team and not overthinking it. I’ll lay the points with Georgia State in this one.
