The USC Trojans and the Arizona State Sun Devils meet in college basketball action from Desert Financial Arena on Saturday night.
The USC Trojans will look to build on their 7-2 start to the year after an 87-73 road win over Arizona last time out. Evan Mobley leads the Trojans in scoring and rebounding with 15.4 PPG and 8.3 RPG with 2.7 blocks per game while Tahj Eaddy is 2nd in scoring with 12.3 PPG with 3 APG and Drew Peterson is 3rd in scoring with 10.1 PPG and a team-high 3.9 APG and 5.2 RPG to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for USC heading into Saturday’s tilt with Arizona State. As a team, USC is averaging 77.6 PPG on 49.2% shooting from the field, 38.5% from 3-point range and 62% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 63.7 PPG on 35.9% from the field and 29.1% from 3-point range this season.
The Arizona State Sun Devils will look to bounce back after an 81-75 overtime loss to UCLA in their last matchup to fall back to .500 at 4-4 on the year. Josh Christopher leads the Sun Devils in scoring with 17.5 PPG and 5.4 RPG while Alonzo Verge Jr. is 2nd with 17 PPG with 4.7 RPG and 3.2 APG this season. Remy Martin comes right behind in 3rd with 16.9 PPG as well as a team-high 3.6 APG while Marcus Bagley has 12.6 PPG with a team-high 6.8 RPG to make life a bit easier on Bobby Hurley over the course of the season, starting with Saturday’s matchup against USC. As a team, Arizona State is averaging 76.9 PPG on 44% shooting from the field, 31.6% from 3-point range and 70.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 77.1 PPG on 45.6% shooting from the field and 36.3% from 3-point land this season.
USC is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 8-1 ATS in their last 9 road games while the under si 38-17 in their last 55 games following a win. Arizona State is 3-13-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall and 0-8 ATS in their last 8 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss.
The free bucket with Arizona State at home is tempting as the Sun Devils may get Remy Martin back for this one after dealing with a family matter, and Josh Christopher couldn’t shoot any worse than he did against UCLA. However, the Sun Devils continue to have an issue with playing defense, and that’s not good when you consider that the Trojans are balanced, can score and actually play really good defense and make their opponents miss a lot of shots. I’ll lay the bucket with USC on the road in this one.
