The Virginia Cavaliers and the Boston College Eagles meet Saturday in college basketball action from Conte Forum.
Virginia is sitting at 6-2 this season. The Cavaliers have won consecutive games over Notre Dame and Wake Forest in their last pair. As for Boston College, they’re 2-8 this season. The Eagles are on a three-game losing streak and coming off a one-point loss to Duke. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Virginia started out the year at 1-1 with a win over Towson and an upset loss to San Francisco. Three wins over St. Francis PA, Kent State and William & Mary came after that, then a loss to Gonzaga. Since then it’s been wins over Notre Dame and Wake Forest for the Cavs.
In the 70-61 win over the Deacons on Wednesday, Virginia’s top contributor was Sam Hauser with 16 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Trey Murphy logged 13 points with two assists and one rebound, and Reece Beekman managed 12 points with three assists and one rebound.
Over on the Boston College side, they started out at 1-1 as well but then went on a four-game losing streak to St. John’s, Florida, Minnesota and Syracuse. After a win over Maine, the Eagles lost their next three to NC State, Louisville and Duke to fall to 2-8 on the year.
In the 83-82 loss to the Blue Devils on Wednesday, Boston College’s CJ Fielder put up 24 points with four rebounds to lead the team. Both DeMarr Langford and Steffon Mitchell put up 12 points apiece, and Rich Kelly added 16 points with three boards and one assist for the Eagles.
The Eagles are 0-5 ATS in their last five home games and 0-4 ATS in their last four Saturday games. Boston College is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 after a straight-up loss and the over is 7-1 in their last eight overall.
Meanwhile, the Cavs are 5-0 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games. Virginia is 28-12-1 ATS in their last 41 road games and the under is 42-20-1 in the last 63 road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Virginia. Boston College played valiantly in their last outing against Duke, leading 43-35 at the break. The Eagles shot 56.1 percent from the field but coughed up 21 turnovers and allowed 14 steals. Virginia’s more methodical pace will likely cause some issues for Boston College. The Cavaliers will try to control the pace here, and there won’t be a whole lot of easy bucket opportunities for the Eagles. Should be close initially, but I like Virginia to pull away in the second half and cover.
