UConn has posted a solid campaign thus far at 5-1. The Huskies began the season with three straight wins over Central CT State, Hartford and USC, then lost a tough one 76-74 to Creighton. Since then it’s been consecutive wins for the Huskies over DePaul and Marquette.
In the 65-54 win over the Eagles on Tuesday, Connecticut’s Isaiah Whaley notched a double-double on 15 points with 13 rebounds and three assists. Tops in scoring for the Huskies was Tyler Polley with 23 points, four rebounds and one assist in 24 minutes of action.
Over on the Bulldogs’ side, they began their season with a win over Western Michigan but then lost their next three to Villanova, Indiana and Southern Illinois. After a win over Providence, Butler fell to Providence and Seton Hall before taking out Georgetown 63-55 in their last game.
In the win over the Hoyas, Butler’s top performer was Chuck Harris with 18 points, five assists and three rebounds. Jair Bolden managed 13 points with six boards and three assists, and both Bryce Golden and Bryce Nze came away with 10 points apiece and a combined nine rebounds.
Butler is 2-5 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up win and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five home games versus a team with a winning road record. The under is 5-1 in Butler’s last six games after an ATS win as well.
Meanwhile, the Huskies are 4-0 ATS in the last four games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last seven Saturday games. Connecticut is 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with UConn. Butler has hit 70 points just twice this season, and hasn’t scored more than 73 in a game all year. The Bulldogs have a combined 178 points across their last three games as well. The Huskies have only hit 70 points in three of six games themselves, but they’ve been keeping their opponents at bay with great defense. I think that’s going to happen again here in a Connecticut cover.
