The Cal Poly Mustangs and the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners meet Saturday in college basketball action from Icardo Center.
Cal Poly is sitting at 2-5 on the year. As for Cal State Bakersfield, they’re 6-4 this season. This will be a rematch of Friday’s game featuring these teams. In that one, Cal State Bakersfield powered out a 13-point victory. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Cal Poly opened the season with a win over Bethesda, but then lost their next two games to San Francisco and Santa Clara. After a win over San Jose State, the Mustangs lost their next two games 70-61 to San Diego and 76-52 to LMU back on December 19.
In the Friday game versus Cal State Bakersfield, the Mustangs fell again 62-49. Colby Rogers led Cal Poly in scoring with 18 points, four rebounds and two assists. Tuukka Jaakkola added 10 points with two rebounds and one steal as well.
Over on the Cal State Bakersfield side, they started off at 3-2 with losses to Santa Clara and Arizona mixed in with winos over Bethesda, Idaho and St. Katherine. The Roadrunners are 2-2 since then with losses to Stanford and Long Beach State with wins over Pepperdine and LBSU.
In the victory on Friday, CSU Bakersfield’s top scorers were Czar Perry and Shaun Williams, each with 11 points and a combined three assists with nine rebounds. Taze Moore chipped in 10 bench points with four rebounds for the Roadrunners.
CSU Bakersfield is 5-16 ATS in their last 21 home games and 16-34-1 ATS in their last 51 overall. The Roadrunners are 6-22 ATS in their last 28 Saturday games and the under is 5-2 in their last seven Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Mustangs are 24-53-2 ATS in their last 79 Saturday games and 5-2 ATS in the last seven versus a team with a wining straight-up record. The over is 4-1 in the Mustangs’ last five road games and 5-1 in their last six on the road versus a team with a winning home record.
PICK: I like the Roadrunners in this one. Cal State Bakersfield has certainly had an uneven season, but there have been some good outings so far. The Roadrunners were strong offensively in their trio of games heading into Friday, with 79 or more points in each outing. Considering Cal Poly was below 70 points in four of five going into Friday, I don’t think the Mustangs will be able to keep up here for long. It’s CSUB’s cover to take, I think.
