Sam Houston State comes into this one at 8-5 so far. The Bearkats are riding a five-game winning streak and took out Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday. As for Central Arkansas, they’re 3-7 this season. The Bears have won consecutive games over McNeese State and New Orleans. Sam Houston State started out the year at 0-3, but then managed three straight victories to get back to .500 on the season. After a pair of losses to LSU and Texas, the Bearkats won their next five games over Rice, UT Rio Grande Valley, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Nicholls State and Southeastern LA.
In the win over the Lions, Sam Houston’s Demarkus Lampley led the team on 21 points with seven rebounds and one assist. Zach Nutall added 17 points with five rebounds and two assists, while Bryce Monroe chipped in 10 points, four assists and two rebounds.
Over on the Central Arkansas side, they began their year on a six-game slide, falling to Memphis, Little Rock, Saint Louis, Arkansas, Mississippi and Mississippi State. The Bears have gone 3-1 since then, and posted an 83-79 win over New Orleans on Wednesday.
In the victory over the Privateers, Central Arkansas’ top scorer was Rylan Bergersen with 25 points, nine assists and five boards. Khaleem Bennett posted 21 points with three rebounds and one assist, and Eddy Kayouloud added 11 points, three assists and one rebound.
The Bears are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 home games and 9-2-1 ATS in the last 12 Saturday games. Central Arkansas is 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss and the under is 4-1 in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Bearkats are 5-0 ATS in their last five road games and 6-0 ATS in their last six games overall. Sam Houston State is 35-17-1 ATS in their last 53 after an ATS win and the under is 6-1-1 in their last eight games overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Central Arkansas here. Sam Houston State has generally scored pretty well this year, and they’ve hit 70 points in each of their last three games. The Bears are hanging tough in most of their games though, despite their sketchy record. I think Central Arkansas has enough offense to stay with the pace in this one and cover.
