Wake Forest managed three straight victories to start out the season on a high note. Those wins came courtesy of Delaware State, Longwood and Catawba. Since then it’s been consecutive losses for the Demon Deacons, however: 70-54 versus Georgia Tech and 70-61 versus Virginia.
In the loss to the Cavaliers, Wake Forest’s top scorers were Isaiah Mucius and Jonah Antonio, each with 14 points and a combined 11 rebounds as well. Ismael Massoud also finished in double-figures for the Deacons, logging 13 points with three rebounds and one assist.
Over on the Duke side, it’s been an up-and-down season already. the Devils began at 2-2 with wins over Coppin State and Bellarmine alongside losses to Michigan State and Illinois. Since then it’s been two straight wins for the Blue Devils. They beat Notre Dame 75-65 and Boston College 83-82.
In the win over the Eagles, Duke’s leading scorer was Wendell Moore, with 25 points, four rebounds and one assist. Matthew Hurt doubled up with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and DJ Steward logged 14 points with eight rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes of work.
Duke is 0-5 ATS in their last five home games and 1-5 ATS in their last six overall. The Devils are 1-5 ATS in their last six after a straight-up win and the over is 8-1-1 in their last 10 Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Deacons are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. Wake is 8-19 ATS in their last 27 Saturday games and the over is 18-6-2 in their last 26 overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Wake Forest here. Duke has been pretty hard to trust this season, even though they’re still a very good team. The Devils fell behind Boston College 43-35 at the half in their last appearance and had to fight to get the win. Duke only has one victory by more than 10 points, which is quite strange for them. Wake Forest has had a couple of tough games in their last pair, but I think the Deacons have enough offense to get into a cover.
