The Austin Peay Governors and the Eastern Illinois Panthers meet in college basketball action from Lantz Arena on Saturday evening.
The Austin Peay Governors will look to bounce back after an 80-75 loss to Eastern Kentucky at home in their last matchup. Terry Taylor leads the Governors in scoring with 19.5 PPG as well as in rebounding with 10.8 RPG while Reginald Gee is 2nd in scoring with 11.2 PPG, making up the pair of double-digit scorers for Austin Peay heading into Saturday’s matchup with Eastern Illinois. Jordyn Adams has 9.2 PPg while Carlos Paez has 7.2 PPG with a team-high 3.6 APG this season for the Governors. As a team, Austin Peay is averaging 73.9 PPG on 45% shooting from the field, 30.3% from 3-point range and 71.7% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 69 PPG on 46.6% shooting from the floor and 33.7% from 3-point range this season.
The Eastern Illinois Panthers will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 74-68 win over Murray State last time out. Josiah Wallace leads the Panthers in scoring with 17.9 PPG, shooting 50% from 3-point range with 4.1 RPG and 2.9 APG while Marvin Johnson is 2nd on the Panthers in scoring while leading the way in assists and rebounding with 5 RPG and 3.9 APG this season, making up the pair of double-digit scorers for EIU heading into Saturday’s tilt with the Governors. As a team, Eastern Illinois is averaging 73 PPG on 43.5% shooting from the field, 36.6% from 3-point range and 67.2% from the foul line while allowing 73.9 PPG on 45.1% shooting from the fiueld and 40% from behind the 3-point line this season.
Austin Peay is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games and 4-14-1 ATS in their last 19 games overall while the under is 24-8 in their last 32 road games. Eastern Illinois is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games while the over is 43-17 in their last 60 home games. The underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
This line and the subsequent line move is showing absolutely no respect to Eastern Illinois and I don’t get it. I’m not saying that Eastern Illinois are world-beaters, far from it as this team just broke a six game losing stretch against the number. However, Austin Peay’s been nothing special this season and come in off of a loss while Eastern Illinois has back-to-back wins and just beat Murray State as a 3.5-point home dog, the same Murray State team that walloped Austin Peay earlier this year. Eastern Illinois also does their best work at home where the Panthers are 4-0 straight up this season, so in a near pick ‘em, I’ll lay the point with Eastern Illinois.
