The Siena Saints and the Fairfield Stags meet in college basketball MAAC-tion from Webster Bank Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Siena Saints will look to build on their 2-0 start to the year after back-to-back wins over Monmouth, including a 76-62 win over the Hawks last time out. Jalen Pickett leads the Saints in scoring and rebounding with 19 PPG and 10 RPG, averaging a double-double through their first two games of the year while Manny Camper is also averaging a double-double through the first two games with 13 PPG, 10 RPG and a team-high 5 APG as well. Nick Hopkins has 12.5 PPG with 1.5 steals while Kyle Young has 11 PPG and 7 RPG to make up the four double-digit scorers for Siena through their first two games of the year. As a team, Siena is averaging 77 PPG on 43.1% shooting from the field, 31.1% from 3-point range and 65.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 69.5 PPG on 42.6% shooting from the field and 33.3% from 3-point range this season.
The Fairfield Stags also have two wins after a 72-56 win over Rider last time out, but the Stags also have nine losses this season coming into this one. Taj Benning leads the Stags in scoring with 12.9 PPG with 4.2 RPG as well and Jake Wojcik has 11.9 PPG to make up the pair of double-digit scorers for Fairfield up to this point in the year. Caleb Green has 8.6 PPG with a team-high 3.1 APG and Jalen Leach has 8.1 PPG while Chris Maidoh leads the Stags on the glass with 6.5 RPG this season. As a team, Fairfield is averaging 60 PPG on 38.1% shooting from the field, 30.4% from 3-point range and 65.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 69.8 PPG on 45% shooting from the field and 32.8% from 3-point range this season.
Siena is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 3-10 ATS in their last 13 road games while the under is 9-3 in their last 12 games overall. Fairfield is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. The home team is 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
I think the case you could make for Fairfield is that they have a lot more game experience right now for this year than Siena does, but I think that’s about where it stops. The Stags just aren’t a good offensive team and I don’t think that’s going to drastically improve enough to get the job done here against Siena. The Saints are a solid team and are already looking really good after pummelling Monmouth last time out and I think we could see some of the same if not a bigger mauling against Fairfield. I’ll lay the points with Siena on the road in this spot.
