The Kentucky Wildcats and the Florida Gators meet Saturday in college basketball action from O’Connell Center.
Kentucky comes into this one at 3-6 so far. The Wildcats have won consecutive games over Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. As for Florida, they’re 5-2 this year. Kentucky opened up the year with a win over Morehead State, but then stumbled to a six-game losing streak. Those losses came to Richmond, Kansas, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, North Carolina and Louisville. Since then it’s been two wins over Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.
In the Tuesday win 77-74 over the Commodores, Kentucky’s lead scorer was Olivier Sarr with 24 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Donate Allen added 14 points with five rebounds, while both Devin Askew and Davion Mintz put up 11 points apiece for the Wildcats.
Over on the Florida side, they opened their season on a three-game winning streak, taking out Army, Boston College and Stetson in succession. After a loss to Florida State, the Gators beat Vanderbilt and LSU before falling to Alabama 86-71 in their last game on Tuesday.
In the loss to the Crimson Tide, Florida’s Tyree Appleby put up 18 points with five rebounds and three assists. Colin Castleton added 13 points, eight rebounds and one assist, and both Tre Mann and Noah Locke managed 11 points apiece, combining for six assists and eight rebounds.
The Gators are 1-4 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 5-0 ATS in the last five after an ATS loss. Florida is 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games and the over is 7-3 in their last 10 home games.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games overall and 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight road games. Kentucky is 1-3-1 ATS in their last five versus a team with a winning straight up record and the under is 7-2 in their last nine overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Kentucky here. The Wildcats didn’t look very good during their six-game losing streak, posting 64 or fewer points in every outing. Kentucky was competitive in a few of those losses though, and they’ve scored 155 combined points across their last two games. Florida has a great offense and will certainly pour in the points during this game, but I think the Wildcats are playing well enough right now to get into a cover.
