The Southern Jaguars will be out to get their first win of the year after an 88-46 loss to UAB to fall to 0-4 on the year. The Grambling State Tigers will look to build on their 66-49 win over Alabama State last time out to pick up a huge conference road win. Cameron Christon leads the Tigers in scoring while sitting 2nd on the team in rebounding with 13.4 PPG and 5.3 RPG while Cameron Woodall is 2nd in scoring with 10.1 PPG to cap off the pair of double-digit scorers for Grambling State heading into Saturday’s matchup with Southern. Trevell Cunningham also has 5.8 PPG along with team-highs of 5.4 APG and 5.4 RPG this season for the Tigers. As a team, Grambling State is averaging 61.9 PPG on 41.8% shooting from the field, 32% from 3-point range and 68.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 68.4 PPG on 37% shooting from the field and 33.9% from 3-point range this season.
Southern is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 23-9-3 ATS in their last 35 games overall while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 road games. Grambling State is 6-14 ATS in their last 20 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400 while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record. The road team is 3-0-1 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I’ve had a hard time with this one, but as much as Southern’s 0-4 record can be chalked up to a tough schedule, the Jaguars put themselves in that spot. Grambling State’s had tough opposition as well, but at least the Tigers have taken the floor since the new year, which is something we can’t say for Southern, so on top of everything now we have to worry about rust as well. I’ll side with Grambling State to get the job done here.
