The Tulane Green Wave and the Houston Cougars meet Saturday in college basketball action from Hofheinz Pavilion.
Tulane is sitting at 6-2 so far. The Wave are 2-1 in their last three games and coming off a win over East Carolina. As for Houston, they’re sitting at 9-1 this year. The Cougars have won consecutive games over SMU and Wichita State. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Tulane began their year on a four-game winning streak. Those victories came courtesy of Lamar, Lipscomb, Southern Miss and AR-Pine Bluff. After a loss to Memphis, Tulane then took out Grambling State, lost to East Carolina 68-58, then beat the Pirates 60-56.
In the Saturday win over ECU, Tulane’s Jaylen Forbes led the team on 20 points with three rebounds. Gabe Watson added 13 points with four rebounds and two assists, and Joran Walker had 10 points with three rebounds and two assists in 34 minutes of action.
Over on the Houston side, they’ve got just one blemish on their record this year. That was a 65-64 loss to Tulsa on December 29. Outside of that, the Cougars have taken out Lamar, Boise State, Texas Tech, South Carolina, Alcorn State, Temple, UCF, SMU and Wichita State.
In the 70-63 win over the Shockers, Houston’s top performer was Quentin Grimes on 22 points with nine rebounds. Dejon Jarreau added 13 points and 10 boards with five assists, and Marcus Sasser chipped in 12 points, three rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes.
The Cougars are 15-6 ATS in their last 21 Saturday games and the under is 9-2 in their last 11 Saturday games. The under is 20-6 in Houston’s last 26 overall and 23-9-1 in their last 33 home games.
Meanwhile, the Wave are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall. The over is 5-2 in Tulane’s last seven road games and the under is 6-2 in their last eight overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Houston. The Cougars are coming off an admittedly sketchy outing versus Wichita State, falling behind 31-25 at halftime and shooting a tepid 38.3 percent from the field. Still, the Cougars found a way to hit 70 points and come away with a victory. Tulane has scored a combined 118 points over their last two games. If Houston plays to their capabilities the cover should be there for them.
