Texas-Arlington began the year at just 1-4 with only a win over Northwestern State to show for in their first five games. Since then it’s been better for the Mavericks. They took a three-game win streak before dropping two to Little Rock and winning Friday 77-64 over the Warhawks.
In Friday’s win, Texas-Arlington’s top scorer was Shahada Wells with 25 points, five rebounds and three assists. Sam Griffin added 18 points with eight assists and four boards, and Patrick Mwamba chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds.
Over on the Warhawks’ side, they began their year at 2-2 with wins over Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin. After a three-game losing streak, Louisiana-Monroe beat Arkansas State twice then fell to TX-Arlington on Friday.
In Friday’s defeat, LA-Monroe’s top scorer was Josh Nicholas with 23 points, four rebounds and one assist. Koreem Ozier was the only other Warhawks player in double-figures with 16 points, eight assists and three boards.
The Warhawks are 4-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven as an underdog. The under is 4-1 in LA-Monroe’s last five Saturday games and 5-2 in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks are 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight as a road favorite and 15-6-1 ATS in the last 22 versus a team with a losing straight-up record. The under is 4-0 in the Mavs’ last four Saturday games and 5-1 in the last six as a favorite.
PICK: I’m going with TX-Arlington again. The Mavericks didn’t have a whole lot of trouble in Friday’s game, jumping out to a commanding 42-26 halftime lead. The Warhawks notched 38 points in the second half but couldn’t keep up. I expect this game to be similar, with the Mavericks banging out a cover.
