The Idaho State Bengals and the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks meet in college basketball action from J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome on Saturday afternoon.
The Idaho State Bengals will look to get back to .500 after a 73-69 win over these same Lumberjacks in their last matchup to climb to 4-5 on the year. Tarik Cool leads the Bengals in scoring with 13.5 PPG while Robert Ford III is 2nd in scoring but leads the team in rebounding and assists with 13 PPG, 7.4 RPG and 3.7 APG this season. Brayden Parker also has 11.8 PPG with 6 RPG to cap off the scoring in double figures for Idaho State up to this point in the season. As a team, Idaho State is averaging 71.7 PPG on 46.2% shooting from the field, 34.4% from 3-point range and 74.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 61.9 PPG on 40.7% shooting from the field and 31.8% from 3-point range this season.
The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks will still be looking for their first home win and cover of the year after falling to Idaho State in their last matchup. Cameron Shelton leads the Lumberjacks in scoring, rebounding and assists with 21.6 PPG, 5.5 RPG and 3.5 APG while Luka Avdalovic has 10 PPG to make up the pair of double-digit scorers for Northern Arizona up to this point in the year. Carson Towt also has 5.1 RPG for the Lumberjacks as well this season. As a team, Northern Arizona is averaging 64 PPG on 39.6% shooting from the field, 31.5% from 3-point range and 72.3% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 78 PPG on 53% shooting from the field and 39.1% from 3-point range this season.
Idaho State is 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall. Northern Arizona is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games against a team with a losing road record while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 Saturday games. The road team is 8-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
Northern Arizona as a home dog sounds tempting, but I just don’t think we’re getting enough value here to make it worth taking a shot on the Lumberjacks considering they’re 0-3 straight up and against the number at home this season. Idaho State isn’t pretty, but they’re won a couple of road games including the first meeting against Northern Arizona just a couple of days ago and while it’s hard to beat the same team twice in as many days, Idaho State’s covered in four straight so they’ll get my nod in this matchup.
