The FAU Owls and the Old Dominion Monarchs meet in college basketball action from the Chartway Arena on Saturday night.
The FAU Owls will look to bounce back after back-to-back losses following their 71-67 loss to Old Dominion in the first half of the back-to-back set on Friday. Jailyn Ingram leads the Owls in scoring and rebounding with 16.5 PPG and 6 RPG while Ryan Greenlee is 2nd in scoring for FAU while tops in assists with 11 PPG up to this point in the season, giving FAU their pair of double-digit scorers heading into Saturday’s rematch with ODU. Michael Forrest has 9.4 PPG as well while Kenan Blackshear has 8.9 PPG with 1.8 steals per game this season. As a team, FAU is averaging 83.1 PPG on 47.7% shooting from the field, 38.4% from 3-point range and 63.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.9 PPG on 42.3% shooting from the field and 35.9% from 3-point land this season.
The Old Dominion Monarchs will try to build off of their win over FAU to improve on their 6-3 overall mark on the year. Malik Curry leads Old Dominion in scoring and assists with 16.6 PPG as well as 4.8 APG and 4.3 RPG as well while Kalu Exikpe is 2nd in scoring and tops in rebounding with 10.9 PPG and 7 RPG as well this season. A.J. Oliver is 3rd in scoring with 10.4 PPG to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Old Dominion heading into Saturday’s rematch clash with FAU while Austin Trice also adds 9.8 PPG and 6.7 RPG as well this season. As a team, Old Dominion is averaging 71 PPG on 45.4% shooting from the field, 29.4% from 3-point range and 69.2% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 71.1 PPG on 43.8% shooting from the field and 36% from 3-point range this season.
FAU is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Old Dominion is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games while the over is 4-1-1 in their last 6 games following a win. The underdog is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I'm not sure what to make of this line, as Old Dominion is the better team and has a solid defense, but the Monarchs just can't cover the number at home for whatever reason. I think I'll back that trend again here as FAU's the far better offensive team and that can make up for their shortcomings on the defensive end. I wouldn't be surprised if we had a similar result to the first half of the back-to-back, so I'll take FAU and the points in this one.
