The Western Illinois Leathernecks and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits meet Saturday in college basketball action from Frost Arena.
Western Illinois enters this one at 2-8 so far. As for South Dakota State, they’re sitting at 7-3 this year. This will be a rematch of Friday’s game featuring these teams. In that one, South Dakota State secured a six-point win. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Western Illinois entered the year on a 1-4 skid with only a win over Mount St. Joseph to show for their first five games. Since then it hasn’t gotten any better; it’s been another 1-4 run for the Leathernecks and four straight losses, the latest coming Friday versus SD State.
In the 83-77 loss to the Jackrabbits on Friday, Western Illinois’ top scorer was Adam Anhold with 16 points and nine rebounds. Ramean Hinton had a solid line as well with 13 points and three boards in 19 minutes on the floor.
Over on the South Dakota State side, they started out at just 1-2 this year but then went on a four-game winning streak. After a loss to South Dakota, the Jackrabbits have won their last pair versus Mount Marty and Western Illinois.
In the Friday win over the Leathernecks, South Dakota State’s Doug Wilson led the team on 22 points with four rebounds and three assists. Baylor Scheierman added 16 points with nine rebounds and four assists in 36 minutes of action on the floor.
South Dakota State is 37-17-1 ATS in the last 55 home games and 7-2 ATS in their last nine Saturday games. The Jackrabbits are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games as a favorite and the over is 6-2 in the last eight as a favorite.
Meanwhile, the Leathernecks are 21-44-3 ATS in their last 68 Saturday games and 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 overall. The under is 5-2 in Western Illinois’ last seven versus a team with a winning straight-up record as well.
PICK: I have to go South Dakota State here as well. The Jackrabbits ran all over the place in the first half on Friday, jumping out to a 41-28 lead at the break. Western Illinois fought valiantly with 49 second-half points, but couldn’t close the gap. This one should be a little more competitive initially, but I still like South Dakota State to run to a cover eventually.
