Idaho hasn’t had any luck in the win column this year yet, but they’ve been competitive in a good percentage of their games. The Vandals have lost to Utah, Northern Arizona (twice) and Southern Utah in their last four outings.
In Friday’s 85-80 loss to the Thunderbirds, Idaho’s Damen Thacker posted 27 points with four assists and three rebounds. Both Ja’Vary Christmas and Gabe Quinnett notched 10 points apiece, combining for nine assists and six rebounds.
Over on the Thunderbirds’ side, they took a loss to LMU in their opener 85-83, but since have rattled off eight straight wins. In the last five games, Southern Utah has taken out Utah Valley, Dixie State, Bethesda (twice) and Idaho.
In Friday’s victory over the Vandals, Southern Utah’s Tevian Jones and Aanen Moody each notched 17 points, combining for two assists and three boards. Dre Marin was also in double-digits with 16 points and four boards.
The Thunderbirds are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 home games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine as a favorite. Southern Utah is 3-7 in their last 10 after a straight-up win and the over is 4-0 in their last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Vandals are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 overall and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 as an underdog. Idaho is 2-5 ATS in their last seven Saturday games and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 after a straight-up win.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Idaho here. The Vandals fell behind 47-35 in the first half on Thursday, but fought pretty bravely in the second to get within five points. Idaho has had some near-miss losses this year and have fallen by five points in each of their last two games. I think Idaho can get it together and cover in this rematch game.
