Georgetown started out the year at 2-2 with wins over UMBC and Coppin State alongside losses to Navy and West Virginia. After a loss to Villanova and a win over St. John’s, the Hoyas lost their next four games to St. John’s, Seton Hall, Marquette and Butler.
In the 63-55 loss to Butler on Wednesday, Georgetown’s top scorer was Jamorko Pickett with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Jahvon Blair added 11 points with eight rebounds, and Qudus Wahab had nine points and 12 boards for the Hoyas.
Over on the Syracuse side, they began this season on a three-game win streak over Bryant, Niagara and Rider. The Orange went 3-1 over the next four games with wins over Boston College, Northeastern and Buffalo, but fell in their last game Wednesday to Pittsburgh.
In the 63-60 loss to the Panthers, Syracuse’s lead scorer was Alan Griffin with 15 points, four assists and six boards. Robert Braswell managed 12 points for the Orange, and Marek Dolezaj added nine points with four assists and six rebounds.
Syracuse are 7-15 ATS in their last 22 home games and 4-0 ATS in their last four after a straight-up loss. The Orange are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Saturday games and the under is 4-1 in their last five home games.
Meanwhile, the Hoyas are 0-6 ATS in their last six road games and 4-1 ATS in the last five Saturday games. The under is 5-2 in Georgetown’s last seven overall and they’re 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss.
PICK: I’m sticking with Syracuse here. Neither one of these teams has been all that impressive when it comes to scoring lately. Georgetown has 60 or fewer points in each of their last two games, and Syracuse has 62 or fewer in two of their last three. That said, the Orange have been staying in games fairly well—even when they lose—and controlling the opposition’s offense as well. This should be a fun game, but I like Syracuse to power out the cover.
