Hartford began the year with consecutive losses but then went on a five-game winning streak over Fairfield, Central CT State, Fairfield and Maine (twice). After two losses to New Hampshire, the Hawks have managed wins over Binghamton 76-56 and 77-74 in their last pair.
In the Sunday win over Binghamton, Hartford’s Austin Williams led the team on 16 points with four assists and two rebounds. Traci Carter notched 15 points with eight assists and two rebounds, while Miroslav Stafl chipped in 12 points with three boards in 19 minutes of work.
Over on the UMass Lowell side, they beat San Francisco in their opener, but then went on a there-game losing streak. After a win over Vermont it was another losing streak, this one lasting four games. The River Hawks managed a victory over NJIT 74-60 in their last game, though.
In the win over NJIT on Sunday, UMass Lowell’s Salif Boudie notched a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds in 21 minutes. Gregory Hammond posted 18 points with three boards, and Bryce Daley added 11 points with six rebounds and one assist for the River Hawks.
UMass Lowell is 0-4 ATS in their last four Saturday games and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five overall. The River Hawks are 7-17-1 ATS in their last 25 home games and the under is 8-0 in their last eight overall.
Meanwhile, the Hawks are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 Saturday games and 13-6 ATS in their last 19 after a straight-up win. Hartford is 4-1-1 ATS in their last six road games and the under is 5-2 in their last seven overall.
PICK: I like Hartford here. UMass Lowell’s scoring abilities have been underwhelming lately to say the least. The River Hawks have been at 67 points or below in six of their last eight games, despite hanging 74 points on NJIT in their last outing. Hartford can do some damage on the scoreboard when the matchup is favorable, and I think this one looks like a good spot for the Hawks to do some damage.
