Drexel opened up their year with a loss to Pitt, but then rattled of two wins over Quinnipiac and a victory over Coppin State. After losing to La Salle 58-48, the Dragons bounced back with wins over Saint Joseph’s 81-77 and Fairleigh Dickinson 85-68.
In Saturday’s game, Drexel fell in a tough one 61-60 to College of Charleston. Leading the Dragons in scoring there was James Butler with 20 points, 14 rebounds and two assists. Zach Walton added 13 points with six boards and TJ Bickerstaff had 12 points and seven rebounds.
Over on the College of Charleston side, they began the year at 1-3 with losses to North Carolina, Furman and Marshall. After a win over SC State, the Cougars lost three more to Western Carolina, Georgia State and Delaware before a win over Delaware on January 3.
In Saturday’s one-point victory, the Cougars’ top scorer was Payton Willis with 22 points, three assists and three rebounds. Cameron Copeland added 11 points with four boards and Zep Jasper had 10 points and five assists with three rebounds.
The Cougars are 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 Sunday games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 overall. The over is 7-2 in Charleston’s last nine home games and they’re 1-5 ATS in their last six home games.
Meanwhile, the Dragons are 0-5-1 ATS in their last six Sunday games and 6-15-1 ATS in their last 22 road games. Drexel is 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight overall and the over is 7-2 in their last nine road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Drexel here. The Dragons have been scoring pretty well this season, notching 69 or more points in five of their first seven games heading into Saturday’s matchup. That game was more of a low-scoring affair, with the Cougars coming back from a 36-31 halftime deficit. I think Drexel will have better control over this rematch, and I like both offenses to break out of their shells as well. Should be another competitive matchup.
