The Providence Friars and the Xavier Musketeers meet Sunday in college basketball action from Cintas Center.
Providence comes into this game at 7-4 so far. The Friars had won consecutive games before falling to Creighton in their last outing. As for the Musketeers, they’re 9-2 right now. Xavier had consecutive losses going before a win over St. John’s on Wednesday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Providence began the year at 2-2 before hitting a three-game win streak over Fairleigh Dickinson, TCU and Seton Hall. After a loss to Butler, the Friars beat DePaul and Butler before falling to Creighton 67-65 in last weekend’s game.
In the loss to the Bluejays, Providence’s Nate Watson and David Duke each notched 13 points apiece, combining for four assists and 14 rebounds. Noah Horchler added 12 points with four boards, and AJ Reeves had 10 points with four rebounds and two assists.
Over on the Xavier side, they came out of the gate this year with an eight-game win streak—and a few close escapes mixed in with them. After two consecutive losses to Creighton and Seton Hall, Xavier managed a 69-61 win over St. John’s in their last game.
In the win over the Storm, Xavier’s Colby Jones posted 16 points with four rebounds and three assists. Jason Carter notched a double-double with 11 points and 16 boards, and Dwon Odom added 11 points with five rebounds and two assists.
Xavier is 4-1 ATS in their last five games after an ATS win and 4-1 ATS in the last five home games. The over is 10-4 in the Musketeers’ last 14 overall and 9-3 in their last 12 home games.
Meanwhile, Providence is 1-4 ATS in the last five Sunday games and 7-2 ATS in their last nine after an ATS win. The over is 6-2 in the Friars’ last eight overall and 4-0 in the last four road games.
PICK: I’m going to take Providence here. This should be a pretty darn good matchup, though. The Friars fought valiantly against Creighton in their last game, despite shooting just 33.8 percent from the field and 70.6 from the line. Providence held the rebound edge 45-35, and had a couple more shots fallen we’d have had an upset. Xavier will give the Friars another test, but I think Providence is up to it on a cover.
