The Texas Southern Tigers and the Prairie View A&M Panthers meet Monday in college basketball action from William Nicks Building.
Texas Southern comes in here at 2-5 so far. The Tigers have lost consecutive games to Auburn and BYU. As for Prairie View A&M, they’re 1-4 this season. The Panthers have lost three straight, most recently to TCU. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Texas Southern opened up their season with a pair of losses 56-52 to Washington State and 85-65 in blowout fashion to Oklahoma State. The Tigers took out Wyoming 76-74 in game three, then lost to Saint Mary’s before beating LeTourneau and falling to Auburn.
In their last game against BYU, Texas Southern fell 87-71. In that one, the Tigers’ leading scorer was Michael Weathers with 23 points, five assists and three rebounds. Yahuza Rasas added 15 points with 12 rebounds, and John Walker posted 13 points and eight boards.
Over on the Prairie View A&M side, they began their season with a loss to Little Rock, but then were able to get a 64-61 win over Evansville in their second outing. Since then it’s been three straight losses for the Panthers. They’ve fallen to Louisville, Washington State and TCU.
In the loss to the Frogs, Prairie View’s Cam Mack topped the team with 16 points, four rebounds and three assists. D’Rell Roberts added 14 points with five rebounds, and Jawaun Daniels chipped in eight points with two boards.
The Panthers are 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall and the over is 5-2 in their last seven Monday games. The over is 5-1 in Prairie View’s last six games as a home underdog as well.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 5-2 ATS in the last seven games overall and 1-6 ATS in their last seven versus a team with a losing straight-up record. The over is 7-2-1 in Texas Southern’s last nine road games and 11-3-1 in the last 15 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Texas Southern. Granted, there’s not a lot of intrigue involved in a game between teams that are a combined 3-9, but this should be a good matchup. The Tigers have hit 70 points or more in four of their last five games, and Prairie View hasn’t scored more than 66 in any outing yet. This should be a higher-scoring affair, but ultimately I like the Tigers to power out a cover.
