Syracuse kicked off the year with three straight wins before falling to Rutgers by 10. The Orange then won their next three games, taking out Boston College, Northeastern and Buffalo. After a tough 63-60 loss to Pittsburgh, Syracuse won their last game Saturday over Georgetown 74-69.
In the win over the Hoyas, the Orange were led by Buddy Boeheim with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists. Joseph Girard added 18 points with eight assists and three rebounds, and Quincy Guerrier had 12 points with nine boards in 30 minutes of action.
Over on the North Carolina side, they began their year with a three-game winning streak as well, but then fell to Texas and Iowa. After a 2-2 stretch in their next four games, the Tar Heels picked up victories on Saturday over Notre Dame and Tuesday over Miami 67-65.
In the win over the Hurricanes, North Carolina’s Leaky Black topped the team on 16 points with nine rebounds and three assists. Kerwin Walton turned in 13 points with four assists, and Day’Ron Sharpe recorded a double-double on 12 points with 16 rebounds in 27 minutes on the floor.
The Tar Heels are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four Tuesday games and 0-4 ATS in their last four overall. The under is 11-2 in North Carolina’s last 13 overall and 4-0 in their last four home games.
Meanwhile, the Orange are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six versus a team with a winning percentage above .600. The over is 42-18-1 in Syracuse’s last 61 road games and 4-0 in their last four Tuesday games.
PICK: I’m going to take Syracuse. North Carolina has had a pair of tight, lower-scoring outings in their last two games. The Tar Heels shot just 34.4 percent from the floor and coughed up 20 turnovers versus Miami but were able to power out a win thanks to a 45-39 rebound margin and an opportunistic 45.0 percent from 3-point range. Syracuse has hit 74 or more points in two of their last three games, and if both teams play to their capabilities here this one should be another high-scoring affair. I like the Orange’s offense a little better on a cover right now, but this should be a great matchup.
