The VCU Rams and the George Washington Colonials meet in college basketball action from the Charles E. Smith Center on Wednesday afternoon.
The VCU Rams come into this one looking to bounce back from an 83-68 loss to Rhode Island in their last matchup. Nahshon Hyland leads VCU in scoring with 18.2 PPG along with 1.9 steals per game while Vince Williams Jr. had 10.7 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for VCU while also leading the Rams with 5.3 RPG this season. Adrian Baldwin JR. also has a team-high 4.6 APG this season to lead the Rams in the assist department. As a team, VCU is averaging 75.9 PPG on 46.9% shooting from the field, 34.5% from 3-point range and 74.8% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.8 PPG on 40.1% shooting from the field and 30.2% from 3-point land this season.
The George Washington Colonials will look to build off of a 75-73 win over Duquesne in their last matchup. James Bishop leads the Rams in scoring and assists with 19.7 PPG and 6.1 APG while Jamison Battle isn’t far behind for GW, logging 18.4 PPG as well as 5.9 RPG this season. Matthew Moyer is 3rd in scoring and tops in rebounding, averaging a double-double per game for the Colonials with 10.6 PPG and 10.1 RPG this season, making up the trio of double-digit scorers for George Washington heading into Wednesday’s matchup. As a team, George Washington is averaging 73.8 PPG on 46.7% shooting from the field, 34.4% from 3-point range and 70.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 73.5 PPG on 43.9% shooting from the field and 33.3% from 3-point range this season.
VCU is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 road games against a team with a losing home record. George Washington is 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games against a team with a winning road record while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 home games. The favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I’m usually tempted to at least take a look when getting a double-digit home dog, as I figure maybe there’s some value there. However, this is one of the opposite times as VCU’s been really good against the number this season when laying double-digits home or away and VCU’s been easier to trust this season by a wide margin as they’ve failed to cover as a double-digit favorite just once this season. I’ll lay the points with VCU as I see a 12-14 point win for the Rams here.
