The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders and the Southeastern Louisiana Lions meet Wednesday in college basketball action from University Center.
The Islanders enter this one at 3-6 so far. Texas A&M-CC has won consecutive games over Our Lady of the Lake and Paul Quinn. As for the Lions, they’re 2-9 this year. Southeastern LA has lost three in a row, most recently to Nicholls State on Saturday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Texas A&M-CC began their year with a win over Texas A&M International, but then fell in their next six to Texas State, SMU, UT Rio Grande Valley (twice), Texas Tech and Texas State. Since then it’s ben wins 99-72 over Our Lady of the Lake and 59-35 over Paul Quinn for the Islanders.
In the December 22 win over the Tigers, Texas A&M-CC’s Jalen White led the way on 18 points with three rebounds, and Simeon Fryer added 17 points with four assists and six boards. Perry Francois chipped in 12 points with five rebounds and one assist in 32 minutes as well.
Over on the Southeastern Louisiana side, they started out 0-3 before getting a win over California Baptist. Three more losses came before a victory over Grambling State, but since then it’s been three more losses to Lamar, Sam Houston State and Nicholls State.
In the 87-67 loss to the Colonels on Saturday, Southeastern LA’s top scorer was Keon Clergeot with 25 points, two rebounds and one assist. The only other Lions player in double-figures there was Gus Okafor with 14 points, three rebounds and one assist in 33 minutes of action.
The Lions are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 versus a team with a losing straight-up record and 5-1 ATS in their last six Wednesday games. The Lions are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 versus a team with a winning percentage below .400 as well.
Meanwhile, the Islanders are 5-1 ATS in their last six Wednesday games and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 versus a team with a losing straight-up record. Texas A&M-CC is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 versus a team with a winning percentage below .400 and the over is 10-4 in their last 14 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Texas A&M-CC. You could easily make a case for either team here though, and it’ll likely be a tight game the whole way. The Islanders have been blown out a few times this year, but against comparable teams they’re usually able to keep the pace fairly well; three of their last four losses have been by five points or fewer. I think the Lions will hang around for most of this game, with the Islanders pulling ahead late.
