The Louisville Cardinals and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons meet in college basketball action from the Lawrence Joel Veterans Coliseum on Wednesday night.
The Louisville Cardinals will look to build on their current four-game winning streak after improving to 8-1 on the year after a 73-71 win over Virginia Tech last time out. Carlik Jones leads the Cardinals in scoring and assists with 16.5 PPG and 4.9 APG with 6.1 RPG as well while David Johnson is 2nd in scoring with 14.7 PPG to go along with 6.1 RPG as well this season, making up the duo of double-digit scorers for Louisville heading into Wednesday’s matchup against Wake. Jae-Lyn Withers has 9.8 PPG to go along with a team-high 7.4 RPG as well on the year for Louisville. As a team, Louisville is averaging 70.4 PPG on 47.2% shooting from the field, 34.2% from 3-point range and 74.3% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 62.8% shooting from the field on 39.1% shooting from the field and 31.6% from behind the 3-point line this season.
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will look to snap a three-game losing streak after a 79-68 loss to Duke last time out. Isaiah Mucius leads the Demon Deacons in scoring with 11.3 PPG to go along with a team-high 4.8 RPG while Ian Dubose and Tariq Ingraham each have 11 PPG with Dubose logging team-highs of 4.5 APG and 2.5 steals per game along with 4.5 RPG. Daivien Williamson has 10.2 PPG with 2.8 APG to make up the group of double-digit scorers for Wake Forest up to this point in the year. As a team, Wake Forest is averaging 72.5 PPG on 47.8% shooting from the field, 33.8% from 3-point range and 75.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.3 PPG on 44.6% shooting from the field and 31.3% from 3-point range this season.
Louisville is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games against a team with a winning home record. Wake Forest is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 19-6-2 in their last 27 games overall.
I get why the points would be tempting with a home dog like Wake Forest, but the Demon Deacons just haven’t been able to hang with the better teams on their schedule and a large part of that has to do with not being able to keep points off of the board. Louisville’s had their ups and downs, but the Cardinals are getting healthy and are rolling along right now and I just think that the Cardinals get the job done with a road win and cover in this one.
