The FAU Owls and the FIU Panthers meet in college basketball action from the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Thursday night.
The FAU Owls will look to rebound from a 64-55 loss to Old Dominion in their last matchup. Jailyn Ingram leads the Owls in scoring and rebounding with 16 PPG and 6.4 RPG while Bryan Greenlee has 11.3 PPG and 2.6 APG to lead the Owls in assists, making up the duo of double-digit scorers for FAU coming into this in-state rivalry game against FIU. As a team, FAU is averaging 80.5 PPG on 47.2% shooting from the field, 37.5% from 3-point range and 63.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.7 PPG on 42% shooting from the field and 35.8% from 3-point range this season.
The FIU Panthers will be out to rebound from a 67-56 loss to Middle Tennessee in their last outing. Antonio Days Jr. leads the Panthers in scoring and assists with 18 PPG and 5.4 APG to go along with 4.2 RPG while Radshad Davis is 2nd in scoring and rebounding with 13.1 PPG and 6.3 RPG. Eric Lovett has 11.2 PPG and Tevin Brewer has 10.5 PPG to make up the group of double-digit scorers up to this point in the year for FIU and Dimon Carrigan has 7.3 PPG and a team-high 7 RPG for FIU this year. As a team, FIU is averaging 81.8 PPG on 45.7% shooting from the field, 35.7% from 3-point range and 68.7% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 70.7 PPG on 43.7% shooting from the field and 32.2% from 3-point range this season.
FAU is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games while the under is 22-8 in their last 30 games following a loss. FIU is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a loss and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games against a team with a losing road record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I’m not reading a whole lot into FAU’s offensive numbers as the Owls have only covered once in their last ten games with four of those games being unlined games against subdivision teams. FAU tends to play lower scoring games against teams on their level and I’m just not sure that’s in FIU’s vocabulary. This Panthers team can score in bunches, despite the loss to Middle Tennessee, and I just don’t know if FAU has the chops to keep up or even slow down the Panthers’ offense. I’ll lay the points with FIU in this spot.
