The Northern Colorado Bears and the Idaho Vandals meet Thursday in college basketball action from the Kibbie Dome.
Northern Colorado comes in here at 5-6 overall. The Bears have lost three straight, most recently to Montana State on Saturday. As for Idaho, they’re 0-9 this year. The Vandals are coming off a pair of losses to Southern Utah last week. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Northern Colorado started out the year at 3-1 with wins over CO Christian, Regis CO and Denver. The Bears then went 2-2 in their next four, taking out Idaho State and Montana. Since then it’s been three straight losses for Northern Colorado; they’ve fallen to Montana and Montana State (twice).
In Saturday’s 76-74 loss to Montana State, Northern Colorado’s Matt Johnson posted 21 points with seven rebounds and one assist. Bodie Hume added 14 points with nine rebounds and three assists, and Kur Jockuch put up 12 points with seven rebounds and two assists as well.
Over on the Idaho side, it’s been a season of futility so far. The Vandals have taken nine straight losses, but gotten close in a few of them. The defeats have come to Sacramento State, Washington State, CSU Bakersfield, Utah, Northern Arizona and Southern Utah in succession.
In the 83-67 loss Saturday to Southern Utah, Idaho’s Damen Thacker led the team on 16 points with four rebounds and two assists. Ethan Kilgore chipped in 10 points with three rebounds and three assists, and three other Vandals players finished on eight points.
The Vandals are 1-8 ATS in their last nine home games and 8-20-1 ATS in their last 29 Thursday games. Idaho is 10-26-1 ATS in their last 37 games after an ATS loss and the over is 4-0 in their last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Bears are 6-2 ATS in their last eight Thursday games and 37-16-1 ATS in their last 54 road games. Northern Colorado is 22-7 ATS in the last 29 after an ATS loss and the over is 4-1 in their last five Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab at Idaho in this one. Northern Colorado managed 74 points in their last game, but hadn’t hit 70 points in any of their previous half-dozen outings. Idaho had 158 combined points in their two games prior to their latest loss, and the Vandals have logged a few good offensive outings this season. I think Idaho can hang in there for a cover.
