Purdue began the year at 3-2 before rattling off a three-game win streak over Indiana State, Ohio State and Notre Dame. The Boilermakers then lost to Iowa, beat Maryland, then lost to Rutgers and Illinois. Last Friday Purdue managed a tense 55-54 victory over Michigan State.
In the win over the Spartans, Purdue’s Trevion Williams was the only player in double-figures with 26 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Eric Hunter added seven points with six rebounds and four assists, and both Jaden Ivey and Zach Edey chipped in six points apiece.
Over on the Indiana side, they started the year at 5-2 with victories over Tennessee Tech, Providence, Stanford, North Alabama and Butler. The Hoosiers are 3-3 in their last six games, falling to Northwestern, Illinois and Wisconsin while otherwise beating Penn State, Maryland and Nebraska.
In the 84-76 win over Nebraska on Sunday, Indiana’s top scorer was Rob Phinisee with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. Aljami Durham notched 17 points with four rebounds and two assists, and Trayce Jackson-Davis doubled up on 15 points with 11 rebounds and two assists.
Indiana is 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS win and 10-4 ATS in their lats 14 games overall. The Hoosiers are 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and the over is 5-2 in the last seven Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Boilermakers are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine Thursday games and 2-6-2 ATS in their last 10 overall. Purdue is 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS win and the over is 36-15 in their last 51 Thursday games.
PICK: I’m sticking with Indiana here. You could probably make a case either way, though; this should be a good matchup. The Hoosiers are coming off a nice performance versus Nebraska with 46.2 percent field goal shooting , 41 rebounds, 14 assists and just eight turnovers as a team. Indiana has scored well lately, with 73 or more in three of their last four games. If Purdue doesn’t get off to a quick start and control the boards here, I don’t think the Boilermakers will be able to keep up.
