The Merrimack Warriors and the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers meet in college basketball action from Knott Arena on Thursday evening.

As a team, Merrimack is averaging 79.5 PPG on 50.4% shooting from the field, 32.6% from 3-point range and 51.9% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 79 PPG on 45.5% shooting from the field and 45.3% from 3-point range this season.
The Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers come into this game will try to bounce back from a 67-55 loss to St. Francis last time out. Jalen Gibbs leads the Mountaineers in scoring with 16.5 PPG to go along with 4.8 RPG while Damian Chong Qui has 13.6 PPG to go along with a team-high 4.4 APG this season. Malik Jefferson has 8.7 PPG with 5.7 RPG while Nana Opoku has 6.3 RPG to lead the Mountaineers on the glass as well this year. As a team, Mount St. Mary’s is averaging 59.6 PPG on 41.2% shooting from the field, 29.5% from 3-point range and 70% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.9 PPG on 44.5% shooting from the field and 31.6% from 3-point range this season.
Merrimack is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a loss while the under is 14-3 in their last 17 road games. Mount St. Mary’s is 4-13-1 ATS in their last 18 games overall and 0-6-1 ATS in their last 7 Thursday games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss.
I get why the Mountaineers would be favored at home, but the problem is that Mount St. Mary’s has serious scoring issues up to this point in the year. It’s a small sample size, but Merrimack’s shown an ability to at least put points on the board in their first couple of games, enough that it’s worth taking them as an underdog here. I’ll take my chances with Merrimack and the points in this spot.
