The San Francisco Dons and the Portland Pilots meet Thursday in college basketball action from Chiles Center.
San Francisco enters this one at 8-6 so far. The Dons are coming off an eight-point loss to LMU in their last game. As for Portland, they’e 6-5 this season. The Pilots lost big to Gonzaga in their last appearance. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
San Francisco began the season at 2-2, then went on a three-game win streak over Nevada, Cal Poly and Long Beach State. After losses to Cal and Oregon, the Dons beat Grand Canyon and San Diego before falling to Gonzaga and beating Portland. Sunday was another loss, 68-60 to LMU.
In the Sunday defeat by the Lions, San Francisco’s Khalil Shabazz led the team on 16 points with three rebounds and one assist. Jamaree Bouyea was the only other Dons player in double-figures there, finishing on 12 points, six rebounds and two assists.
Over on the Portland side, they lost to Seattle in their opener, but then proceeded to roll through their next five with victories in each. Since then, Portland is just 1-4, beating Montana State while otherwise falling to Oregon, Seattle, San Francisco and Gonzaga.
In Saturday’s 116-88 blowout loss to the Bulldogs, Portland’s Ahmed Ali put up 19 points with three assists and Mikey Henn managed 12 points, one rebound and one assist. Zac Triplett chipped in 13 points, and both Latrell Jones and Clythus Griffith had 11 apiece.
Portland is 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win and 17-35 ATS in their last 52 Thursday games. The Pilots are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 versus a team with a winning straight-up record and the over is 6-2 in their last eight overall.
Meanwhile, the Dons are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven overall. San Francisco is 7-16 ATS in the last 23 games after a straight-up loss and the under is 5-1 in their last six overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with San Francisco. This one is interesting though, since these teams just played each other last week. The Dons dominated that one 88-64 despite a tight first half, shooting 51.5 percent from the field and out-rebounding the Pilots 40-30. San Fran also had a nice 24 team assists in the win as well. This game will likely be competitive initially once again, but I like the Dons to power out another cover.
