Central Connecticut State opened the year at 0-3 with losses to UConn, Army and Hartford. After a win over Fairleigh Dickinson, the Devils then lost to the Knights and St. Francis BK in their next pair before beating the Terriers in the rematch. Since then it’s been a pair of losses 93-68 and 78-64 to Bryant.
In Friday’s loss to the Bulldogs, Central CT State’s Zach Newkirk led the way with 17 points, three assists and two rebounds. Greg Outlaw added 12 points with four rebounds, and Karrington Wallace doubled up with 11 points, 10 rebounds and one assist for the Devils.
Over on the Sacred Heart side, they started their campaign with losses to Rutgers and LIU before going 2-1 in their next three with wins over LIU and Wagner. The Pioneers then split two games with Merrimack, losing 97-90 before bagging a 68-62 win on Friday.
In the victory over the Warriors, Sacred Heart’s Tyler Thomas posted 22 points with eight rebounds and four assists. Mike Sixsmith added 17 points with three assists and two rebounds, and Cantavio Dutreil pulled down 13 rebounds with seven points in 25 minutes.
The Pioneers are 0-4 ATS in their last four games after an ATS win and 0-4 ATS in their last four after a straight-up win. Sacred Heart is 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight Thursday games and the under is 17-8 in their last 25 overall.
Meanwhile, the Devils are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four after an ATS win and 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games. Central CT State is 2-8-1 ATS in the last 11 Thursday games and the under is 4-1 in their last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Central CT State. There’s not a ton of intrigue involved in a matchup between two sub-.500 teams, but this should be a competitive game. Central Connecticut State had a string of four games with 71 points or more in each, but couldn’t get much going versus a good Bryant team. As for the Pioneers, they’ve been at 68 points or below in four of their seven games this year. I think the Devils can power out a cover late in a good matchup here.
