Colorado State started out the year at 2-1 with a loss to Saint Mary’s, then took out Santa Clara, Fresno State and San Diego State in their next four. After a loss to the Aztecs, the Rams managed wins over UNLV in their next pair, taking it 74-71 last Thursday and 83-80 on Saturday.
In the Saturday win over the Rebels, Colorado State’s Isaiah Stevens posted 22 points with eight assets and six rebounds to lead the team. David Roddy added 18 points with six assists and five boards, and John Tonje had 15 points with two rebounds and two assists.
Over on the San Jose State side, they began their season with a 2-6 run, losing to Saint Mary’s, Cal Poly, Utah State and Boise State in between wins over Fresno Pacific and Benedictine Mesa. Since then, the Spartans have lost to Fresno State 79-64 and 80-65.
In Sunday’s loss to the Bulldogs, San Jose State’s Rich Washington topped the scoring on 24 points with eight rebounds and two assists. Ralph Agee posted 14 points with four rebounds and Nate Lacewell had 10 rebounds with seven points in 19 minutes on the floor.
The Spartans are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 overall and 3-11 ATS in their last 14 Thursday games. San Jose State is 1-8 ATS in their last nine after a straight-up loss and the under is 11-5-1 in their last 17 Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Rams are 23-8 ATS in their last 31 Thursday games and 2-6 ATS in the last eight versus a team with a losing straight-up record. Colorado State is 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss and the over is 4-1 in their last five overall.
PICK: I’m sticking with Colorado State here. San Jose State has posted a few good offensive efforts this season, but for the most part they’re just not scoring well. The Spartans have notched more than 65 points just twice in their last seven games. Colorado State has had their scoring issues here and there as well, but they’ve been more consistent. This one should be the Rams’ to cover if they play to their capabilities.
