The Belmont Bruins and the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles meet Thursday in college basketball action from Eblen Center.
Belmont enters this game at 12-1 so far. The Bruins are riding a nine-game win streak, and took out TN-Martin on Saturday in their last appearance. As for Tennessee Tech, they’re 1-12 this year. The Eagles have lost three straight, most recently to Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Belmont began the year with three straight wins before taking a 96-83 defeat by Samford on December 5. Since then it’s been all victories for the Bruins. They’ve taken out Tennessee State, Lipscomb, Kennesaw State, Tennessee State, Evansville, Murray State, TN-Martin, SEMO and the Skyhawks again in succession.
In Saturday’s 89-69 win over TN-Martin, Belmont’s top scorer was JaCobi Wood with 21 points, one rebound and one assist in 22 minutes. Nick Muszynski added 11 points with four boards, and both Even Brauns and EJ Bellinger scored 10 points apiece for the Bruins.
Over on the Tennessee Tech side, things haven’t gone quite as smoothly. The Golden Eagles opened up their season with nine straight losses, though they were close in a few of those games. Since their win over SEMO, the Eagles have lost to Eastern Illinois, Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky.
In Saturday’s 90-80 loss to the Colonels, Tennessee Tech’s Keishawn Davidson led the team with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. Jr. Clay doubled up with 15 points, 10 assists and two rebounds, and Damaria Franklin added 14 points with five rebounds and two assists.
Tennessee Tech is 3-0-1 ATS in their last four overall and 5-0 ATS in their last five Thursday games. The over is 7-3 in the Eagles’ last 10 overall and the under is 4-1 in their last five home games.
Meanwhile, the Bruins are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 after an ATS win and 4-0-1 ATS in their last five road games. Belmont is 4-1-1 ATS in their last six overall and 28-13 ATS in their last 41 Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Tennessee Tech here. On paper, this looks like a pretty stout mismatch; the teams have opposite records this year. That said, the Golden Eagles have been playing pretty well over their last four games, staying within 10 points or fewer in each. I don’t doubt Belmont will win this game, but I think Tennessee Tech is resilient enough to eke in there on a cover.
