Winthrop vs Longwood College Basketball Picks, Odds, Predictions 3/4/21

The Longwood Lancers and the Winthrop Eagles meet Thursday in college basketball action from Winthrop Coliseum. 

Longwood enters this Big South Tournament matchup at 12-15 so far. The Lancers are 1-1 in their last pair and coming off a win over UNC Asheville. As for Winthrop, they’re 21-1 this year. Longwood started out their year on an ugly 3-13 skid, but things have been better since then for the Lancers. They’ve gone 9-2 over their last 11 games, falling to Presbyterian and Hampton in that time. Longwood’s last outing was a win over UNC Asheville in the conference tournament. 

In the 77-61 win over UNC Asheville, Longwood’s DeShaun Wade posted 17 points, two rebounds and two assists. Leslie Nkereuwem added 18 points with six rebounds in 18 minutes, and both Jesper Granlund and Juan Munoz notched 10 points apiece. 

Over on the Eagles’ side, they’ve had a pretty epic season so far, opening up at 16-0 before a lone loss to UNC Asheville on January 29. Since then Winthrop has taken out Radford and High Point over their last five games. 

In the 83-54 win over High Point on Monday, Winthrop’s Chandler Vaudrin notched a triple-double on 10 points, 10 assists and 12 rebounds. Adonis Arms posted 15 points with five boards, and DJ Burns chipped in 12 points with five rebounds. 

The Eagles are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games as a favorite and 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games. Winthrop is 4-10 ATS in their last 14 overall and the under is 4-0 in their last four overall. 

Meanwhile, Longwood is 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 4-0 ATS in their last four Thursday games. The Lancers are 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. 

PICK: I’m going to stick with Longwood. The last time these teams met, the Eagles notched a pair of wins 72-61 and 70-50. Winthrop has been playing well since then, but the Lancers haven’t been slouching themselves. Longwood has 70 or more points in four of their last six, and if they can find some offense here I can see the Lancers banging out a cover.
