The Longwood Lancers and the Winthrop Eagles meet Thursday in college basketball action from Winthrop Coliseum.
Longwood comes into this one at 4-12 on the year. The Lancers are coming off a win over Campbell in their last game on Sunday. As for the Eagles, they’re 11-0 this year. Winthrop posted an eight-point win over Gardner-Webb in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Longwood began the year on an 0-3 skid before beating NC A&T in game four. After that was another string of five losses before a win over UNC Asheville. The Lancers then lost three more games in a row, but managed a 78-69 win over Campbell in their last game Sunday.
In the victory over the Camels, Longwood’s DeShaun Wade led the team on 22 points with four rebounds, and Juan Munoz added 16 points with six assists and three boards. Justin Hill was also in double-figures for the Lancers on 11 points and three rebounds in 17 minutes.
Over on the Winthrop side, it’s been a perfect stretch of 11 wins in a row so far. The Eagles beat UNC Greensboro, Little Rock, USC Upstate, Furman and Campbell in their first six games. Since then it’s been wins over Campbell, Charleston-Southern and Gardner-Webb.
In the 91-83 win over Gardner-Webb on Sunday, Winthrop’s top scorer was Chandler Vaudrin with 17 points, six assists and eight rebounds. Charles Falden added 15 points with two boards, and DJ Burns hd 14 points with four rebounds and two assists for the Eagles.
The Eagles are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Thursday games and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS loss. The over is 16-5 in Winthrop’s last 21 overall and 4-1 in their last five home games.
Meanwhile, the Lancers are 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS win and 0-4 ATS in their last four road games. Longwood is 5-1 ATS in their last six Thursday games and the under is 4-0 in their last four Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Winthrop here. The Eagles have been soaring very well this season, with 75 or more points in each outing. Winthrop has had a few close escapes (one point versus Campbell, two versus Charleston Southern, etc.) but has been getting the job done on offense. Longwood put up 78 points in their last game, but that was a bit uncharacteristic. I think Winthrop can keep their distance in this one.
