The Green Bay Phoenix and the Detroit Titans meet Friday in college basketball action from Calihan Hall.
Green Bay enters this one at 3-9 so far. The Phoenix are on a three-game win streak over Youngstown State and Oakland. As for the Titans, they’re 1-7 this year. Detroit has lost four straight, most recently to Oakland. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Green Bay began the year on an ugly 0-9 skid, but the good news is that the Phoenix have won their last three outings. The losses came to Minnesota, Wisconsin, Eastern IL, Marquette, Milwaukee, Wright State and Youngstown State. Since then it’s been a win over Youngstown State and two over Oakland.
In the 87-78 win over the Grizzlies on Saturday, Green Bay’s Amari Davis led the team on 25 points with six rebounds and three assists. Josh Jefferson added 19 points with three boards and two assists, and Emmanuel Ansong put up 11 points with three boards and one assist.
Over on the Detroit side, they started out on a three-game skid to Michigan State, Notre Dame and Kent State before beating Western Michigan. The Titans have lost four in a row since then, dropping two games apiece to both Wright State and Oakland in late December.
In the 83-80 loss to Oakland on December 27, Detroit’s Noah Waterman posted 19 points with three rebounds and three assists. Antoine Davis added 18 points with three assists and two boards, and Bul Kuol managed 14 points with four assists and seven rebounds.
Detroit is 1-10 ATS in their last 11 home games and 0-4 ATS in the last four overall. The Titans are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Friday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five road games and 3-0-1 ATS in the last four after an ATS win. Green Bay is 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight Friday games and the over is 5-0 in their last five overall.
PICK: I’m going with Green Bay here. Granted, there’s not a lot of intrigue in this game; neither team has played particularly well overall this season. That said, the Phoenix have been scoring pretty well over their last five outings, with 77 or more in each game. If Green Bay can find a good offensive rhythm here I don’t think the Titans will be able to keep the pace.
