The North Alabama Lions and the Kennesaw State Owls meet Friday in college basketball action from KSU Convocation Center.
North Alabama enters this one at 5-3 so far. The Lions are coming off a split pair of games versus Stetson. As for Kennesaw State, they’re 3-9 this season. The Owls have lost seven straight games, most recently to Liberty. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
North Alabama began the year with consecutive wins over Oakwood and Carver, but lost their next pair to Troy and Indiana. Since then it’s been a 3-1 run for the Lions. They lost one game to Stetson but otherwise have beaten Crowley’s Ridge, Freed-Hardeman and Stetson in that time.
In the 73-66 win over the Hatters on Saturday, North Alabama’s Jamari Blackmon led the team on 20 points with one rebound and one assist. James Anderson added 13 points with three boards, and Mervin James put up 11 points, one assist and six rebounds.
Over on the Kennesaw State side, they began their year at 2-2 as well, then got a win over Dalton State. That was the last time the Owls would see a victory however; since then they’ve lost to Belmont, Samford, Mercer, Jacksonville (twice) and Liberty (twice).
In Saturday’s 76-47 loss to the Flames, Kennesaw State’s Chris Youngblood put up 16 points with three assists and one rebound. Spencer Rodgers was the only other Owls player in double-figures with 12 points and one board in 30 minutes on the floor.
The Owls are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 home games and 7-17 ATS in their last 24 after a straight-up loss. Kennesaw State is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 after an ATS loss and the over is 7-2-1 in their last 10 home games.
Meanwhile, the Lions are 1-5 ATS in their last six Friday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. North Alabama is 4-1-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS win and the over is 4-0 in their last four Friday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Kennesaw State here. The Owls’ seven-game losing streak looks pretty ugly on the surface—and it is—but there are some positives to find. Kennesaw State hung with a good Liberty team pretty well in the first half of their last game, though they lost the handle in the second half. The Owls have been fairly close in a few losses during this streak, and I think they’re good enough to get into a cover in this one.
