Niagara opened the year on a three-game skid versus Syracuse and Saint Peters, but then won three straight over Fairfield and Albany. Since then it’s been losses to Marist and Rider alongside wins over Marist and Rider during the Eagles’ last four games.
In Saturday’s 66-55 win over the Broncs, Niagara’s Kobi Nwandu led the team with 21 points and three rebounds. Marcus Hammond notched a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, and Greg Kuakumensah chipped in nine points with four rebounds.
Over on the Manhattan side, they started out their year at 1-3 with a win over Rider and losses to Rider and Marist. The Jaspers managed a 65-59 win over Delaware State and split a pair versus Quinnipiac. Those games came 84-79 (loss) and 45-42 (win) for Manhattan.
In Saturday’s victory over the Bobcats, the Jaspers didn’t have a double-digit scorer. The closest was Samir Stewart with eight points, two assists and one rebound in 22 minutes on the floor. Samba Diallo added seven points, and Ebube Ebube chipped in nine rebounds in 18 minutes.
The Jaspers are 0-5 ATS in their last five Friday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games. Manhattan is 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS win and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall and 16-5 ATS in their last 21 versus a team with a losing straight-up record. The under is 6-2 in Niagara’s last eight road games and 5-1 in their last six Friday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Niagara. Manhattan has been a bit underwhelming when it comes to putting up points this season. They’ve notched more than 67 in just two of seven outings so far. The Eagles are a bit inconsistent on the scoring front themselves, but they’ve notched some decent totals this year. If Niagara comes in hitting shots and keeps a brisk pace they should be in line for a cover here.
