Liberty opened up the year at 4-2 with wins over Mississippi State, South Carolina, St. Francis PA and Bluefield. After a loss to Missouri the Flames went on a 4-0 run before splitting two games with Lipscomb. Since then it’s been consecutive victories over Kennesaw State.
In Saturday’s 76-47 win over the Owls, Liberty’s Darius McGhee led the team on 12 points with two rebounds in 22 minutes. Blake Preston added 11 points with four assists and five rebounds and Chris Parker chipped in 10 points with three assists and one board.
Over on the Hatters’ side, they kicked off the season with four straight losses to Emmanuel GA, Miami, Florida and South Florida. Three straight wins came for the Hatters over Florida Atlantic, Carver and North Alabama, then they lost the rematch the Lions on Saturday.
In the 73-66 OT defeat by North Alabama last weekend, Stetson’s Chase Johnston put up 19 points with three rebounds and three assists, and Christiaan Jones posted 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Wheza Panzo added 10 points and six boards as well.
The Hatters are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 home games versus a team with a losing road record and 6-2 ATS in the last eight home games. The over is 9-3 in the Hatters’ last 12 overall and 9-4 in their last 13 home games.
Meanwhile, the Flames are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 Friday games and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The over is 14-5 in Liberty’s last 19 overall and they’re 4-1 in their last five road games.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Stetson here. The Hatters were behind at halftime in their last game, but put together a nice second-half effort to push North Alabama to overtime. It wasn’t meant to be, but it did mark a continuation of some pretty decent games over the Hatters’ last quartet. Liberty has been scoring well themselves and will probably control this game for the most part, but I think Stetson is just tricky enough to get in there.
