BYU entered the season at 3-0 before a big loss to USC in game four. Two more wins came after that, then the Cougars fell to Boise State on December 9. Up next was a four-game winning streak, halted by an 86-69 loss to Gonzaga. BYU managed a 62-52 win over Saint Mary’s on Thursday.
In the win over the Gaels, BYU’s only double-digit scorer was Alex Barcello with 14 points, two rebounds and two assists. Both Brandon Averette and Matt Haarms notched nine points apiece, combining for four assists and five rebounds as well.
Over on the Dons’ side, they started out at 2-1, then lost to Rhode Island prior to a three-game win streak. Over the next five games, San Francisco lost to Cal, Oregon and Gonzaga before a win over Portland. The Dons then took a loss to LMU before Thursday’s win over Portland.
In the 79-63 victory over the Pilots, San Francisco’s Jamaree Bouyea posted 28 points with two rebounds and two assists. Khalil Shabazz managed 13 points with six rebounds, and both Julian Rishwain and Taavi Jurkatamm had 11 points apiece with a combined eight rebounds.
The Dons are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five Saturday games. The under is 6-1 in San Fran’s last seven overall and the over is 23-11-1 in their last 35 at home.
Meanwhile, the Cougars are 5-0 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 4-0-1 ATS in their last five road games. The over is 5-2 in the Cougars’ last seven overall and the under is 7-1 in their last eight road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with BYU. The Cougars were a little sluggish offensively versus a good Saint Mary’s team in their last outing, and were even down by five at the break. BYU got a nice effort from across the roster in the second half, and it turned into a nice 10-point win. San Francisco will probably be a similar opponent here; if the Cougars can find a good offensive rhythm I don’t think they’ll have issues covering.
