Tennessee State began their year at 0-3 before a win over Crowley’s Ridge. Three more losses to Chattanooga, Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri State came after that. The Tigers beat TN-Martin last week, but took a rough one-point loss to Jacksonville State on Thursday.
In the loss to the Gamecocks, Tennessee State’s top scorer was Ravel Moody with 24 points, six rebounds and one assist. Mark Freeman added 15 points with eight rebounds and two assists, and Marcus Fitzgerald had 11 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Over on the Tennessee Tech side, they’ve had a pretty rough year. The Golden Eagles started out on an ugly nine-game losing streak, though they did manage to get close in a few of those games. Since the win over SEMO, Tennessee Tech has lost four more, including Thursday against Belmont.
In the 88-67 loss to the Bruins, Tennessee Tech’s top scorer was Shandon Goldman with 19 points, two rebounds and two assists. Damaria Franklin was also in double-figures for the Eagles there, with 11 points and five rebounds in 20 minutes on the floor.
The Eagles are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four Saturday games and 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight after a straight-up loss. Tennessee Tech is 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games overall and the over is 8-3 in their last 11 overall.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 1-7 ATS in their last eight road games and 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 Saturday games. Tennessee State is 1-4 ATS in the last five after a straight-up loss and the under is 19-7 in the last 26 overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Tennessee Tech here. Granted, this game probably doesn’t hold much interest if you’re not a fan, but with that said it should be a pretty competitive matchup and a fun one to watch. The Tigers have been at 64 points or below in three of their last five, and Tennessee Tech has hit 72 or more in three of their last five. I like this one to be tight the whole way, with the Eagles eking out a cover.
