The Georgia State Panthers and the Appalachian State Mountaineers meet Friday in college basketball action from Holmes Center.

Georgia State enters this one at 8-2 so far. The Panthers have won consecutive games versus Coastal Carolina in their last two outings. As for Appalachian State, they’re 10-5 this year. The Mountaineers are coming off a pair of split games versus South Alabama. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Georgia State began their year at 2-1 with wins over Georgia Tech and Toccoa Falls before a loss to Mercer. The Panthers then beat Charlotte, Mercer and Carver before falling to Charleston and Coastal Carolina. Georgia State beat the Chanticleers in two meetings afterward to move to 8-2.

In the 71-68 win Saturday over Coastal Carolina, Georgia State’s Corey Allen put up 15 points with four rebounds and four assists. Both Justin Roberts and Collin Moore added 14 points apiece, combining for six assets and six rebounds for the Panthers as well.

Over on the Appalachian State side, they started out the season at 4-1 over their first five with a loss to Bowling Green. The Mountaineers went 2-3 in their next five with losses to Tennessee, Auburn and Troy. Since then it’s been a 4-1 stretch with wins over Troy, GA Southern and South Alabama.

In Saturday’s 83-77 win over South Alabama, App State’s Adrian Delph posted 28 points with five rebounds and three assists. Justin Forrest added 17 points with six assists and four rebounds. Michael Almonacy chipped in with 14 points, five assists and three boards as well.

The Mountaineers are 5-1 ATS in their last six home games and 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 Friday games. Appalachian State is 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall and the over is 4-1 in their last five overall.

Meanwhile, the Panthers are 1-5 ATS in their last six raid games versus a team with a winning home record and 2-5 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up win. The under is 4-0 in Georgia State’s last four overall and 5-1 in their last six Friday games.

PICK: I’m going to take Georgia State, but probably staying away. This should be a pretty good matchup and will probably be close most of the way. App State has hit 77 points or more in three of their last five games, and the Panthers have hit 69 or more in every game so far. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this as a higher-scoring game, and I like Georgia State to eke out a late cover.
