The Southern Miss Golden Eagles and the UTSA Roadrunners meet Friday in college basketball action from UTSA Convocation Center. 

Southern Miss enters this game at 7-6 so far. the Golden Eagles have won consecutive games versus Middle Tennessee in their last pair. As for UTSA, they’re sitting at 5-8 this season. Southern Miss began their year on a 1-3 skid with only a win over William Carey. After four straight wins over Lamar, LA-Monroe, Loyola and UTEP, the Eagles lost to UTEP and UAB (twice). Since then it’s been a pair of wins over Middle Tennessee last Friday and Saturday. 

In Saturday’s 64-59 win over the Blue Raiders, Southern Miss’ Tae Hardy and Tyler Stevenson each posted 18 points to lead the team, combining for five assists and 10 rebounds. LaDavius Draine added 12 points with six boards and three assists for the Eagles in that one as well. 

Over on the Roadrunners’ side, they kicked off their year at 2-2 with wins over UTPB and Sul Ross State. UTSA then hit a 2-1 run over their next three before losing three straight to Rice and North Texas. Since then it’s been a win over the Mean Green and two losses to LA Tech. 

In Saturday’s 82-66 loss to the Bulldogs, UTSA’s top scorer was Keaton Wallace with 22 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Jhivvan Jackson added 14 points with one rebound, and Jordan Ivy-Curry chipped in with nine points and three boards in 20 minutes of action. 

UTSA is 0-5 ATS in their last five Friday games and 5-16 ATS in their last 21 overall. The Roadrunners are 1-6 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss and the over is 13-5 in their last 18 home games. 

Meanwhile, the Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last four overall and 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS win. The under is 5-0-1 in the Eagles’ last six road games and 11-5-1 in their last 17 overall. 

PICK: I’m sticking with UTSA. There’s not a lot to get excited about here, though; both teams have been struggling for most of the year. In any case, the Eagles have been quite sporadic when it comes to scoring lately, but they’re generally controlling their opponents fairly well on the other side. UTSA notched just 132 combined in the LA Tech games, but they’d hit 69 or more in each of their previous six games. I like another decent offensive performance in a cover for the Roadrunners here.
