The Citadel Bulldogs and the Samford Bulldogs meet Saturday in college basketball action from Pete Hanna Center.

The Citadel enters this one at 8-4 so far. The Bulldogs have lost four straight games, falling to Furman, VMI, UNC Greensboro and Mercer. As for Samford, they’re 6-8 this season. Those Bulldogs are 1-5 in their last six games and coming off a loss to Chattanooga. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

The Citadel opened up the year with a nice eight-game win streak, taking out Piedmont, NC A&T, Toccoa Falls, CIU, Carver, Longwood, Presbyterian and Chattanooga. Since then it’s been four straight losses for the Bulldogs; they’ve fallen to Furman, VMI, UNC Greensboro and Mercer.

In the 83-63 loss to the Bears on Wednesday, the Citadel’s Hayden Bitemn posted 21 points with nine rebounds and two assists. Kaiden Rice added 16 points with seven boards and Brady Spence chipped in 10 points with three rebounds in 15 minutes.

Over on the Samford side, they opened up their year at 2-3 with losses to Alabama A&M, Georgia and Troy. The Bulldogs then took out Kennesaw State, Belhaven and VMI before four straight losses to Wofford, Chattanooga and UNC Greensboro. Since then it’s been a win over Western Carolina and a loss to Chattanooga.

In Wednesday’s 70-64 loss to the Mocs, Samford’s Logan Dye posted 13 points with three boards in 17 minutes. Preston Parks added 12 points with four rebounds and one assist, and AJ Staton McCray had 11 points, four assists and six boards in 29 minutes.

Samford is 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games and 16-33-4 ATS in their last 53 games overall. The under is 4-0-1 in Samford’s last five overall and 4-0-1 in their last five home games.

Meanwhile, the Citadel is 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five road games. The over is 6-2 in the Citadel’s last eight road games and 5-2 in their last seven overall.

PICK: I’m going to take the Citadel, but probably staying away. Neither of these Bulldog teams has looked good lately; Samford is 1-5 in their last six and the Citadel is on a four-game losing streak. That said, Samford hasn’t really gotten close in any of their recent losses (outside of the Mocs games), and if the Citadel puts up a good effort here they should be able to bag the cover. It’s something of a dice-roll game, though; a lot of things could happen.
