The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Tennessee Volunteers meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Thompson-Boling Arena.

Mississippi State comes into this one at 9-7 overall. The Bulldogs have lost consecutive games to Ole Miss and Alabama. As for Tennessee, they’re sitting at 10-3 this year. The Volunteers have also lost consecutive games to Florida and Missouri. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Mississippi State began their year at 3-3 with losses to Clemson, Liberty and Dayton. After a three-game win streak and a loss to Kentucky, the Bulldogs took out Missouri, Vanderbilt and Florida over their next four games. Since then it’s been losses to Ole Miss and Alabama, however.

In Saturday’s 81-73 loss to the Tide, Mississippi State’s DJ Stewart led the team on 27 points with three rebounds and two assists. Iverson Molinar added 19 points with two rebounds and one assist, and Tolu Smith chipped in with nine rebounds, eight points and two assists.

Over on the Tennessee side, their year started with a seven-game win streak before a loss to Alabama on January 2. After three more wins over Arkansas, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt the Volunteers have lost their last two outings to Florida and Missouri.

In Saturday’s 73-64 loss to the Tigers, Tennessee’s Yves Pons posted 20 points with five rebounds, and both Josiah-Jordan James and Victor Bailey put up 12 points with a combined four assists and six rebounds for the Volunteers.

The Volunteers are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss. Tennessee is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Tuesday games and the under is 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 1-4 ATS in their last five games after an ATS win and 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss. The over is 6-2 in Mississippi State’s last eight overall and 10-1 in their last 11 road games.

PICK: I like Mississippi State in this one. The Volunteers have floundered a bit in their last two outings, posting just 49 points against Florida and 64 in the Missouri loss. Mississippi State has hit 55 or fewer points in two of their last four games, but generally the Bulldogs are a pretty good scoring team when they’re in form. This should be a pretty interesting matchup, and I think Mississippi State has the offensive gas to keep the pace.
