Maryland vs Purdue College Basketball Picks, Odds, Predictions 2/2/21

The Purdue Boilermakers and the Maryland Terrapins meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Xfinity Center College Park. 

Purdue comes into this one at 12-6 so far. The Boilermakers are 1-1 in their last two games and coming off a win over Minnesota. As for Maryland, they’re 9-8 this year. Purdue started their season at 3-1 with a loss to Clemson, then fell to Miami before winning their next trio. After a 1-3 stretch, the Boilermakers beat Michigan State, Indiana, Penn State and Ohio State before losing to Michigan and bouncing back with a victory over Minnesota. 

In the 81-62 win over the Gophers on Saturday, Purdue’s Brandon Newman put up 29 points with six rebounds. Trevion Williams doubled up on 17 points with 14 rebounds and three assists, and Mason Gillis had 11 points with nine rebounds. 

Over on the Maryland side, they started out a 6-3 with losses to Clemson, Rutgers and Purdue. After a three-game losing streak, the Terrapins beat Illinois and Wingate, then lost to Michigan before a win over Minnesota. On Wednesday, Maryland took another loss to Wisconsin. 

In the 61-55 loss to the Badgers, Maryland’s Aaron Wiggins put up 18 points with two rebounds and one assist. Donta Scott posted 13 points and eight boards, and Darryl Morsell added 11 points with one rebound and five assists in 36 minutes on the floor. 

The Terrapins are 0-5 ATS in their last five home games and 0-6 ATS in their last six Tuesday games. Maryland is 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall and the over is 15-6-1 in their last 22 overall. 

Meanwhile, the Boilermakers are 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 Tuesday games and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven overall. Purdue is 3-0-1 ATS in their last four road games and the over is 7-3 in their last 10 Tuesday games. 

PICK: I like Purdue here, but you could probably make a case either way. The last time these teams met, Purdue pulled off a tense 73-70 win. The Boilermakers shot 45.6 percent to Maryland’s 43.1 percent, and out-rebounded the Terrapins 41-31. Purdue had a dominant 41-28 lead at the half, but Maryland rallied to make a game of it in the second. This should be another great matchup, and I think the Boilermakers have a better chance at pulling off the cover/win.
