The Devils finally got their first win over Alabama State on Monday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Alcorn State began the year at 0-6 before noticing wins in their next three games over Mississippi Valley State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Alabama State. Since then the Braves are 0-3 however, with losses to Southern, Jackson State and Grambling State.
In the 67-62 loss to Grambling on Monday, Alcorn State’s Troymain Crosby was the only team player in double-figures with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Tyree Corbett added nine points with four boards, and three other players chipped in eight points apiece.
Over on the Delta Devils’ side, their season started off on an ugly skid with losses in their first 16 games. That was a winless period from November 25 all the way to February 8. On Monday, Mississippi Valley State managed a win (finally) over Alabama State.
In the 68-65 win over Alabama State, the Delta Devils’ top scorer was Kam’Ron Cunningham with 34 points, five rebounds and four assists. Caleb Hunter added 13 points with seven assists and two rebounds and Keiondre Jefferson had 12 points with eight boards.
The Devils are 1-5 ATS in their last six Saturday games and 3-8 ATS in the last 11 overall. MS Valley State is 1-6 ATS in the last seven after an ATS win and the over is 7-3-1 in their last 11 Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 2-5 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 Saturday games. The under is 5-1 in Alcorn State’s last six overall and 5-2 in their last seven Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Alcorn State here. Granted, there’s not much to like about this matchup on the surface. These teams last met up on January 16 in a 71-59 Alcorn State win. The Braves shot 49.1 percent in that one and out-rebounded the Devils 32-30. This one may not be such a one-sided blowout but I still like the Braves on a cover.
